After a successful launch at Body Recall headquarters in Berea in 2010, the Second Annual Intergenerational Grandparents Day Celebration will move to Madison Southern Hgh School in Berea in 2011. Lifetime Fitness organization Body Recall is again organizing the celebration, scheduled for September 11 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
The new site will accommodate the much larger crowd that is expected this year.
Also new this year for the celebration is will be an Intergeneration Olympics. Games and physical activities will be geared toward a wide range of ages. The Intergenerational Olympics will have traditional and non-traditional events (many of which will harken days gone by) and will emphasize participation over winning.
Other activities will include:
- Memory Mural – Berea artist Alfredo Escobar will direct the creation of the second memory mural. Attendees are encouraged to bring a memento from their childhood which can be photographed and included in the mural.
- Entertainment Stage – Featuring local musicians, dance troops, storytellers and other performers.
- Demonstrations – Including Body Recall exercise classes and fall recovery techniques, technology, apple pressing, making homemade ice cream and many others.
- Food Tent – A variety of sweet and savory treats will be available as well as a cake auction and cupcake walk.
