Dr. Martha E. Beagle, a Body Recall Board member and Professor of Physical Education and Health at Berea College in Berea, KY, and Body Recall Inc. both received awards at the recently concluded American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD) in Indianapolis, Indiana
Martha, a member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance since 1972, received the Council on Aging and Adult Development’s 2009 Excellence in Programming Award in recognition of her work in leading and implementing “programs that promote, advocate, and encourage physical fitness, wellness, and the importance of seniors remaining active throughout their lives.” To be eligible for this award a recipient must be an affiliated member of AAPAR, have a currently active and established program of 3 years or longer, and have made significant contributions to older adult fitness programs.
In addition to being a member and award recipient, Martha has served for the past two years as the Secretary for the Council on Aging and Adult Development and was voted President Elect at this year’s convention. Body Recall received the Ray Ciszek Service award from the Council on Aging and Adult Development for its overall national program “in recognition of outstanding contributions, meritorious service, and exceptional leadership for older adults.” This award is given annually to an individual or group who are not members of AAHPERD and who have made significant contributions to programs for older adults in health, physical education, recreation, and dance.
