Body Recall receives $1,500 pledge from People’s Bank of Berea

Body Recall was a recent recipient of a $1,500 pledge from People’s Bank of Berea in support of its efforts to increase overall health awareness and improve the physical fitness and well being of citizens in Berea and the surrounding area.

In pledging his banks support, George Clark, Assistant Vice President stated that the Bank “has always been concerned about the financial health of our customers. However, we recognize too, that financial health and personal health often go hand in hand.”

Jeff Rubin, Executive Director of Body Recall, said he is grateful for the Bank’s support and “hopes this pledge will encourage other like minded businesses to support us in our efforts.”  Body Recall’s campaign to increase health awareness grows out of a 2009 study conducted by the United Health Foundation. According to the study Kentucky ranked among the bottom 10 states in the nation in terms of overall health and fitness.

In a similar study conducted by Trust for America’s Health, Kentucky ranked 9th in the nation in Adult Hypertension rates; 7th in Adult Diabetes and Adult Obesity; 4th in Child Obesity (age 10-17); and 2nd in Adult Physical Inactivity.

An article published by the Kentucky Institute of Medicine adds that many of the health problems in our state “are due to poor lifestyle choices, which lead to otherwise preventable diseases and premature deaths.” The article goes on to say, “While some diseases are due to risk factors that cannot be mitigated . . . most risk factors for chronic disease can be prevented or modified to improve health.”

One of the article’s key points is that in order to address these problems “citizens, providers, and policymakers need to initiate change in the communities where they live, work, and participate in the healthcare system. However, local communities often lack the information and knowledge they need to take action.”

“For over 30 years Body Recall has been a leader nationwide in advancing the cause of health, wellness, and lifetime fitness,” Rubin said. “In fact, we were a pioneer in designing and teaching fitness and flexibility training programs for older adults, special needs populations, and youth.  These  programs have helped thousands of individuals faced with health issues ranging from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Osteoporosis, Arthritis, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Mental Health, and Stress to Obesity, Insomnia, Pre and Post Natal conditions, Asthma, and other Pulmonary Diseases.
